Install / Linux / Arch

Install on Arch Linux.

Step-by-step installation guide for Arch Linux.

Ilopad for Arch Linux is published as a pacman package (.pkg.tar.zst) in the Ilopad repository. Add the repository once and pacman installs it and every later release, the same way it handles the rest of your system.

Add the Ilopad repository

The recommended way. Three steps, and updates arrive on their own afterwards.

1

Trust the signing key

Import the Ilopad key into pacman’s keyring and sign it locally, which is what tells pacman to trust it:

curl -fsSLo /tmp/ilopad.gpg https://dl.ilopad.com/ilopad.gpg sudo pacman-key --add /tmp/ilopad.gpg sudo pacman-key --lsign-key 9B88125FDFB1653D4A6E39EE3A59EC22020F75A0
2

Add the repository

Append the repository to /etc/pacman.conf:

curl -fsSL https://dl.ilopad.com/ilopad-pacman.conf \ | sudo tee -a /etc/pacman.conf
3

Install Ilopad

Refresh the package databases, update the system and install. Press Enter at each question to accept the default:

sudo pacman -Syu ilopad-server
Use -Syu, not -Sy: Arch Linux does not support a partial upgrade. If pacman also updates the kernel (the linux package), restart the computer before you start Ilopad. If you start it first, it shows Restart Needed: restart, then start it again. From now on pacman keeps Ilopad current along with the rest of your system: each new release arrives with sudo pacman -Syu. Every package and every index is signed, and pacman refuses anything that does not verify.

Start Ilopad

Launch the server from the terminal, or find Ilopad in your applications menu:

ilopad-server

On the first launch, Ilopad shows Permission Required, because it needs access to the input device. Click Allow and enter your password. The Ilopad window then opens.

Ilopad Server on Arch Linux showing the server name, a green power button and the No Devices Paired empty state
The server shows this computer’s name under Server Name, with a green power button beside it while the server is running. Click Add Device to show a pairing code, then scan it with the Ilopad app on your iPhone. If you use firewalld or ufw, Ilopad also asks for your password to open its network ports (UDP 4444 and 5353).

Install a single release by hand

Use this if you would rather not add a repository. It installs one release and nothing more: Ilopad will not update itself, so you repeat these steps for each new version.

1

Download the package

This link always points at the newest release:

Download the .pkg.tar.zst

2

Install it with pacman

Open a terminal and install the file from your Downloads folder. pacman gets anything else that Ilopad needs from the Arch Linux repositories:

sudo pacman -U ~/Downloads/ilopad-server-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
3

Start Ilopad

Start it as in step 4 above: run ilopad-server, or find Ilopad in your applications menu. The first launch asks for the same permission.

Uninstall

To remove Ilopad, with its settings and the permissions that it added, follow Uninstall on Arch Linux.
